Introductions Thread

Hello to WIllie and future community members.

I wanted to take a minute to start an introductions topic, and I guess I will go first.

My name is Jeremy. I am the Technology Coordinator at a small library. My claim to fame (haha) is that I run a Youtube channel called Practical IT. I’m not going to drop a full link, but it’s easy enough to find with a search. FOG Server is by far my most popular topic.

I’ve been watching Willie’s channel for a LOT of years, and he was one of the main influencers that got me into using Ubiquiti products. If you’re here, you have probably been watching Willie for a while as well.

My main passion in the IT field is Unix-like systems. I’ve been using Linux for over 25 years now.

I guess that’s it for now. I hope this community grows and we get a nice diverse group of people trading ideas.

Hello Willie and company.

I’m Susan Nuss owner and operator of Blackdragon Networks, LLC. I’ve been watching Willie for a long time. I started with a Unifi apartment complex wifi system 6 years ago and 3 years ago expanded to build and own a rural fixedwireless ISP. I use both Unifi and UISP equipment with over 200 subrcribers and 350 plus devices in the field. I love #CBRS and the way it can truely help close the digital divide. Willie helped me get started for the covid crazed startup with federal Covid Response funds and very short timelines. Currently I helping to build a new Tarana CBRS fixed wireless system. @williehowe @Practical-IT-Jeremy nice to get started on this platform.

I’m glad you decided to join us! I’m glad your business is growing and that we could help! Tarana makes awesome gear and I’m seeing a LOT of people move to it.

Hello Everyone,

I’m Bob Carpenter, a long-time fan and client of Willie Howe’s channel and company. I’m a sales engineer for a Tier 1 computer manufacturer. I speak English, Tech and Geek for a living. I’ve been working with computers and technology for over 40 years. I’m a networking nerd, and I use Ubiquiti Unifi & Edge gear and Mikrotik to have a ridiculous home network with a pfSense Firewall.

I’m a massive fan of “The right tool for the job.” I use Unraid for my current home server needs and am always happy to help or discuss this or any of the products or topics above.

Willie was also kind enough to ask me to be a moderator for this site. I’m looking forward to seeing this community grow.

Hi, Folks, Doug Dodge here.

I primarily have been a software developer for close to 40 years. But, I love learning about the hardware side as well.

Ubiquiti and Synology are the mainstay of my rig here at my home office. I hope to learn a bit more about them.

I am always more than happy to answer programming and data-related questions.

Hello! I’m Terry Johnson a network admin / jack of all trades at a small community college in Michigan. Got the Ubiquiti bug when Aerohive notified me that I’d have to pay a maintenance / licensing fee per AP.

Survived two voip phone migrations, several on-prem exchange outages, migration to O365, 2 failover clusters, and 1 issue that required restoring 64 VM’s from backups… (lost a lot of hair in 36 hours).

Hi everyone, Otto Acuna here. I am a long time fan of Willie Howe’s channel in Youtube. I’ve learned a lot from Unifi, Synology and Grandstream hardware from Willie’s channel and his experience.
I am located in Costa Rica, in Central America and have a small business called “NubesPrivadas.com” (which translates to “PrivateClouds” where we rent Synology NAS devices to small and medium businesses to cover many of their operational needs with these little device, including 3-2-1 backups. On top of that, we are a reseller of Drivesavers, for those who did not backup on time . Glad to be in this community and congratulations to Willie for this initiative. Forgot to add that we fully administer those devices and for the client its a subscription, where they have not to worry about the hardware replacement, we manage it and keep it running doing what is supposed to be doing.
