My first networking class was for Novell, back in 96. ![]()
Thatās about when I got mine. Was a lot of fun for about 3 years after that, then the company went to all Windows Servers.
Welcome aboard, glad youāre here!
Hi Iām Will and have been working on IP networking since 1989. Background in sysadmin, web dev, but now its all hobby work. Started using Ubiquiti gear about 10 years ago. Been watching Willie for the last couple of years. Central IL, so wondering if there will be meet ups.
Hello,
Iām Chuck Roth and I live in the San Francisco Bay area. Iām more of a hobbyist than a professional. Began watching Willieās YouTube channel and have used some of Willieās services when I hit a snag that I couldnāt figure out (Thanks Willie!). Iām also a bit of a newbie when it comes around to IT. My knowledge base looks more like a partially eaten chunk of Swiss Cheese. Small with large parts missing and whatās there is full of holes. But I keep plugging along. Anyway, My latest project is a server that I want to get working again. One of the nice things about living in the SF Bay area is that thereās a lot of used equipment for sale. Hereās the thing, I donāt know ANYTHING about building a computer. Iām in the learning phase of the process.
The server that I bought is an older Titanus server that probably was a custom build. It has a Z9PA-D8 motherboard but Iām not sure what CPU it has in it. I am assuming that, even though it as slots for two CPUās, it has only one. Guessing because it only has 4 sticks of ram in the slots for CPU-1 and the fan was unplugged for for CPU-2. Anyway, hope to be able to pick the brains of some more experienced people here. Iām probably going to ask some very basic questions here so be patient with me.
Welcome to the board! Stay a while!
Aye, Chuck! Glad youāre here! Welcome and enjoy!
Hi iām Johnny I own an MSP in Pittsburgh PA. will not mention our company name as I donāt want to advertise our services here. We have been watching Willie Howe for years and we learned so much, and recently stumbled upon his forums and became a member instantly.
I love working on and using Free Opensource Technology. Around 80% of our company runs on free and opensource.
We created ITFlow https://itflow.org which is a Free and Opensource PSA for MSPs and we also created simpNAS https://simpnas.com a free and Opensource NAS Software. Both in Active Development.
Thats all I really have about myself. I love IT Freedom!
Welcome aboard! Iāll be checking out SimpleNAS!
@johnny So Iām checking out ITFlow. Youāve done a great job with this! One of our initiatives here is to add a traditional ticket system and have it integrated with billing. Weāre going to spin up ITFlow because the demo looks great and do a small scale test with it! Great work!
Thank You @williehowe!! Thatās fantastic that you could possibly use ITFlow, were deff open to feedback, suggestions. ITFlow is is main project while simpNAS is just getting started back up so lots of work to be done there.
