I am trying to set up two GWN 7665 APs on my domestic network.
I am accessing internet through Starlink and I have switched the Gen 3 router to Bypass mode (disabled wifi).
I would like to access the web interface of the APs to make use of all the available features, and configure them further than the factory configuration. The problem is that even after factory resets, the APs keep booting as “Slaves” thus preventing any access to the web interface.
Have these 7665s ever been used somewhere else or connected to GDMS.cloud? Do you have any other GS equipment on this network, a GS router or another AP?
I have bought the two 7665s from a seller specializing in WiFi and Networking tech. I believe they are brand new and unused, but maybe the seller has been hiding things from me.
The two 7665s are the only GS equipment on my network. I am using a non-manageable non-PoE switch from Netgear combined with dedicated auto-sensing PoE+ injectors for each 7665 AP.
At first I thought the Starlink Gen 3 router was causing the problem, but after some tests the problem remained even when booting the APs unconnected to the router.
I heard some newer versions of the APs firmware implemented a sort of “boot as master” check when doing a factory reset. I am now wandering if updating the APs firmware could be a solution (but it appears hard to do without accessing any interface - maybe some sort of manual update ??).
Ok, good since no other GS equipment we can rule that out.
So start with one at a time. Factory reset and let it come online. After that, Does it broadcast the default ssid on the back of it? You should also be able to connect to that ssid with the password on the back. And at this point also try to log into whatever IP it picks up. Let see me know what you get.
If it’s keeping the default ssid and you can connect that’s good. I assume you can browse out at that point? Try a different web broswer to reach it and make sure you put https in front, it should auto do that but you never know. IF you can’t reach it via it’s IP maybe try creating an account at gdms.cloud. Free to sign up and use. Add one of the APs there and see if it comes online. It will show a greenlight next to it like in this picture.
You can update the firmware that way, which may help your issue of not being able to log in locally with its IP. You will have to take off gdms.cloud after if you just want to log in locally to the web interface.
What IP are you trying to reach to manage the AP? Typically Grandstream equipment will be 192.168.80.1.
Once you are connected to the SSID open a command prompt and type ipconfig and tell us what the gateway IP is.
Also please show us a screenshot of the command prompt and the browser when you try to access the AP. Even in slave mode you can still hit the IP it will just say the AP is in slave mode.
One other thing you might try is drop your internet connection and then do a factory reset. Scan the network to find the AP based on the MAC and then try and login using the pw on the label. This will prevent it from contacting GDMS.cloud. If you can access it this way and this goes away when you reconnect to the web, then it has been joined to GDMS by someone else. If this is the case then I would go back to your vendor and get them to resolve it, or replace them.
