GWN7664 low speeds

hi.

I have a site with 4 x GWN7664 running firmware 1.0.25.34
3 units are connected to a GWN7700P over poe and the fourth unit is meshed and powered by a ubiquiti POE injector.

service provider connection is 200mbps and I test that at LAN port from SP supplied router.

issue is I am not getting anything more than 50mbps over wi-fi.

i have tried following.
deleting all devices and re-adding to gwn cloud
deleting and re-creating wi-fi

also connected one unit directly to lan port of router with poe injector and same result where speeds do not go over 50mbps.

any help would be appreciated.

Are you getting the low speed over all 4 APs, or only the meshed AP?
Do you mind sharing your settings for the radios?
Is the speed problem new out of nowhere or has it existed as long as this setup has been running?

yes on all 4 AP’s .

i have just rolled back to 1.0.25.10 to see if any improvement and unfortunately no improvement.

If I may offer a couple of suggestions…

At the very top you have band steering set to “Balance”. That may be causing most clients to connect vis 2.5ghz right now. Disable that for testing and see if that helps. Try disabling “Enable short guard” for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. Additionally, unless you have 802.11b client, I strongly recommen’d disabling “Allow Legacy Devices”. That can seriously slow things down. The same goes for “WiFi5 Compatible Mode”. You don’t HAVE to have that one for most all WiFi 5 devices.
Give those things a try and let us know!

thanks , i’ve made the changes as suggested and will test again .

Any luck? Did any of those changes help?

hi. not at all.

will be doing a hard reset on monday .
;-(

Besides the suggestions from @rutman286 set your channels, and power manually. Don’t use 40Mhz on 2.4ghz. Set minRSSI to -74 and you haven’t told us anything about the switch these are plugged into or the client device you’re using.

@williehowe
thank you for the suggestions.
I am using a GWN7700P switch.
client devices are a mixture of smart TV’s, laptops and mobile handsets.

What device are you showing is only getting 50Mbps?

i have been testing using
macbook pro m1
iphone 12
xiaomi redmi pro

at one point i thought the switch may be faulty, so i connected an access point directly to the service provider router lan port and created a dedicated SSID - this way it still does not exceed 50mbps.
at the same time i had a macbook connected to a different lan port on same sp router and that was testing at 200mbps . ran speed tests separately.

i have 16 sites running various GS network products and this is the first site that has exhibited this issue .

When you connected directly to the router with the AP, how did you power it? Poe injector?

If you have the AP connected directly to the router, plug you laptop/PC into the other port on the 7664 and see if you get full speed that way. Might be able to tell if the AP is limiting speed that way.

And have you tried one of the other APs directly to the router?

What does your environment look like? Do you have wlanpi and/or wifi explore pro? Please remember there are two sides in wifi. What the wifi can do and what the client can do.

I have two AP’s in the same situation mentioned above (one being GWN7660LR and the other GWN7664). The operator’s internet plan is 500Mbps. The AP’s see less than 300Mbps. The operator provided an ONT with a Wi-Fi module. This ONT provides the speed as stipulated in the contract. However, I cannot use it, as it does not cover the entire house with signal quality. Firmware 1.0.25.34 is currently installed on the previously mentioned APs. It is noteworthy that the ports to which the ap’s were connected are Gigabit.

Sorry if I missed this, but have you checked the switch to make sure that the AP’s are linked at 1gb?

One thing I noticed is when there is migration to “Wi-Fi5 Compatible Mode” there is an increase in speed, but it does not reach 400Mbps

Is there any chance you are using the PPSK feature for your passwords? I know in my testing that gives weird results with speed tests unless you use openspeedtest.net.

hi, everyone. thank you for your valued feedback and input.

To recap, environment was as below

  • service provider fibre router with max speeds of 200mbps
  • 1 x GWN7700P
  • 4 x GWN7664 - 3 hardwired to 7700 and 4th AP unit connected to a Ubiquiti POE injector - POE-48-24W-G

problem was devices were not exceeding 50mbps when connected to SSID.

various troubleshooting attempted

  • scenarios with 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ channels, radio settings etc - too many mention .
  • resetting AP’s

eventually, I deleted 1 AP and created a complete new network with just the single AP - this worked until I added more AP’s and the problem replicated .

ultimately, I ran out of time as the client was impatient and I replaced the kit with REYEE
1 x RG-ES205GC-P
4 x RG-RAP2266

sad to say, the Reyee is by far outperforming the GS on this particular site.

I will be setting up the removed GS kit in my workshop over the weekend to see if I can figure out what the underlying issue is / was.

Did you check the switch ports the APs were plugged into? I have seen this when the port is 100mb not 1000.

hi, yes I did .
I suspected the GWN7700P may be faulty, but problem replicates with a different switch as well.
