Help understanding UNAS transfer speed

This topic is about Unifi products, but I feel my observation might be general networking.
Is it normal for transfer speeds of a NAS to be different when transferring files from on LAN to another LAN? In my case all my equipment is connect 10gbit, and when I set my computers port on the switch to assign my computer an IP address from the same LAN as the NAS I get basically full transfer speed up and down. when i change my computers port on the switch to assign an IP address from a different LAN I get slower results. (Ill im doing is changing the LAN my computer is on thru the switch). Is that normal? and what is happing to cause that?

My NAS is on a different LAN then the default, and guest LAN’s and below is what is see for speed transfer
-When i connect default to NAS the upload is about 1/2 and download about 1/3 normal speed.
-When connecting Guest to NAS LANs, upload speed is 1/8 and download 1/4.

Hi Mholm. Yes, what you are experiencing is very likely if you are not using a layer 3 switch to handle the traffic between the two LANs. If you are using a router to handle the different LANs, then the traffic between the two goes through the CPU of the router and will be limited by the capacity of that CPU. For best results you either need to have your NAS on the same LAN as your workstations, or you need to use a layer 3 switch properly configured for that layer 3 traffic.

Thanks for the Reply, and that make since. I was thinking that, but was hoping the Switch would just figure that magic out once the transfer started and confirmed by routing policy. It sounds like my next networking rabbit hole is learning level 3 networking.
