I have a CCTV question, this may seem a but odd however based on a article I just read I thought I would do some investigation.
currently I use hik-vision for my CCTV, (hoping to change to Unifi at some point just money).
Would you plug the cameras direct into the CCTV DVR or use a poe switch as a go between? the article seemed to emphasize easier and more control i.e firewalls etc.

Hey Lee,
If the nvr/dvr has poe ports on it I do like to use it. There are times where it is ridiculous to try and run an ethernet cable directly to the dvr and it’s easier to tap into the network with a separate switch for the cameras. A lot of nvr/dvr might be 16/32ch but only supply an 8/16 port poe switch on the back, so you would need an addtional poe switch anyway, if adding that many more cams. If you are thinking of switching to Unifi, you are going to need a POE switch for those cams as they don’t provide poe ports on their NVRs.
