Hughsnet piggybacking off cellular towers

Lost a customer to “Hughsnet”… I’m an unlimited data WISP… Whatever… (they will call me next month when the 250gb is used up by direct tv) anywho…

I was taking down equipment for this customer as the new hughsnet was going up. I was asking the installer questions, he obviously had no idea what I was asking… hey dude, is latency still high 700’s? Man I don’t know what that is… I explained… He said yes as long as your 100% on the dish, but before he is finished installing, he will add a device that uses cellular connections to increase the performance of hughsnet. He said it would actually give you the 100mbps faster. I didn’t know this was a thing, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t be. However, you still pay for data. Something I whole heartedly disagree with. Thoughts?

I think there’s a LOT of government money out there funding a lot of strange setups and companies that aren’t providing real value to the last mile. If we’re GOING to spend the money it should go to local ISPs in the communities to build out to people who live in the area.

I totally agree. I spend tons of money trying to keep my system online and just very rough and rugged location that I’m located in.

what area do you operate in, i always try to keep a wisp connection at my sites to ward off the wild backhoe that takes out my fiber connections.

Between New Orleans, Slidell. Same here with cars, hurricanes, tornado’s, and people cutting down poles to steal the metals for scrap.

ahh thats not too far from me.
