MikroTik Users in this group

I was wondering if there are any MikroTik users in this group.

I have a small WISP and use some Mikrotik routers in my environment. I have used there wireless equipment in the past but found it to be poor performing

I use Mikrotik router at home, and I have one mikrotik switch in my wisp network, the only reason I have in the WISP is due to lack of ubiquiti supply for the needed equipment, and or also 300% markups for those venders that do have them…

We do some MikroTik work.

I am building my entire network lab at home using Mikrotik devices. Here is my product list.
RB3011UiAS-RM
CRS317-1G-16S+
CRS326-24G-2S+
CSS610-8P-2S+
2 Each CSS326-24G-2S+
4 Each RB750Gr3
hAP ax3
2 Each cAP ax

I have a Grandstream UCM6301 and a Grandstream GWN7802P Switch used for all my assortment of Grandstream I/P phones and wireless phones. The Grandstream devices are on a VLAN that is isolated from everything else.

Everything is networked with 10G Fiber connections.
I have 24 VLANS setup on the 3011 in order to isolate each and every deevice in my network.

My ISP is a full 5Gb fiber connection up and down from AT&T.

It took me quite a while to get this all setup but the learning was fun and satisfying. I am in no way a professional Mikrotik user. I just enjoy the challenges of configuration.
My net purchase is going to be a Mikrotik CCR2116-12G-4S+
This will replace my RB3011 In order to improve my total network connections to the 5Gb network from AT&T. 16Core, 16Threads, and 16Gb of ram should do the trick.
Thank You Willie for all your support and pointers in my networking journeys over the years. You started me on this path and look what happened.

That’s pretty awesome – you should post a picture in the Equipment Pictures category!

I like that you can use containers for network monitoring

I use some Mikrotik. Most of of what I use is the hEX RB750Gr3 routers for the Campground WiFi installs we do. Just a great little router that stands up to the heat just great.

Yes they are great for that.

I have four in my network. Each one is on a seperate vlan. I use them for connections for kids to play games and to supply a private connection to IOS devices.

I use the hex s at home, and a Netpower 16 PoE on the wisp. The only thing I dislike about the Mikrotik PoE is how it gets PoE. On the NP 16, I have to use two power sources in order to get 24v PoE

When GS came out with the GWN700x routers I looked at using them for the new campground deployments we are currently doing, and the operating specs show the operating temps are a lot more forgiving with the Mikrotik. These units are in outdoor enclosures on a pole in the sun. The cabinets are vented but no fans. They have survived two deep south summers and still going strong. The new ones I am currently installing in another group of campgrounds will have a fan in the enclosures. Plus the Mikrotik units are much smaller.

GWN700x
Operation: 0°C to 40°C

RB750Gr3
Operation: -30 - 70 °C

Hello, I purchased then sold a Mikrotik 10Gb switch. Then purchased a couple of routers (routerboard 3011 ) to learn, never open the box. I have to Mikrotik a try.

Are you using anything outdoors? I am looking at something for a customer for building to building. Clear line of sight, max distance of 1200ft (apx 360m).

Check out the wireless wire.

What Willie said !! Wireless Wire kit P2P.

you literally take it out of the box, point them at each other POOF done ! They even have a meter on the side to show signal strength. You will also get WICKED speeds at the 60gig mark too !

My previous employer we settled on Mtik, I was certified on MTCNA (i think, this was back in 2017) and MTCTE (traffic control). New company I put Mtik on solutions but PM’s say they are too expensive and pick TPLINK and other extreme budget products. So I basically just use it at home and in my lab at work. I like it, using one of the older RB2011UiAS-IN (red face) to run my lab at home (its handling the traffic for voice and nurse call just fine while running white/black lists to keep anything not north america out). Not the fastest but I dont need it to be, so the task to price is good. I’d like to get one of the higher horse power units, will see what this years budget has left over.
