Ubiquiti UISP Router

Is anyone using the newer USIP router?
This device isn’t as easy as it seems to configure. I needed it in a desperate way yesterday when my ER4 died after 4 great years of service. Unfortunately, you cannot use the Edgerouter backup to load this device, and you cannot configure it via a web browser, it is only configurable through the UISP app with Bluetooth and online UNMS after it has been adopted.

  • Connected with phone
  • I did a factory reset on this router
  • Added the static IP, gateway and DNS for internet connectivity
  • Change the IP address and subnet for VLAN1 to match my network
  • Setup a DHCP server to match my IP and subnet for VLAN1 - At this, I should have been able to see network traffic, DHCP leases, but instead nothing happened, even my desktop on site wouldn’t get an IP.
  • Switch0 checked to see what ports where assigned to Switch0, all by default except port 1 (internet) and 9 (SFP)
  • Added new VLANx to Switch0, created DHCP server for VLANx, nothing connected, nor did I see any of my equipment on VLANx
  • Removed VLANx from Switch0, removed port 2 from Switch0, added VLANx to port 2, this also trunked the VLAN to this port, again, was not able to see any equipment on VLANx
  • Tried many different ways to make this work, but could not get anything to work, if I gave my PC a static, I could browse the web
  • Solution removed the UISP router, found an Edgepoint 6 I used as an outdoor switch awhile back, loaded my config from my dead ER4 put it in operation, system online, but limited to the capabilities of the EP6.
  • I have one UISP switch and will be adding another soon, these are very simple to configure, and seem pretty fast.

My goal is to use the UISP router, I know that the next firmware release should have a web interface, it is available now on EA, but it is not supported by UNMS/CRM at this time.

If anyone has any pointers to properly configure this thing let me know

I think I got this! In the Switch, you have to “ADD” the “VID”.

Add the VLAN to the Switch, configure the switch to show the ports, Each port you need to add to this vlan, add a VID and the Vlan tag, still have DNS issues with DHCP, just made it manual DNS and added both the router and 1.1.1.1. I’ll go try it out in a couple days on the live side and see how it performs.
