Hypervisor of choice

Thanks Willie for mentioning Harvester. That one was NOT on my radar screen.

I’m running LXD + Docker + KVM today at two sites. I use Proxmox to host and manage a few nodes, but I want to get rid of it. I was planning to blow away my Proxmox installs in favour of simple Debian + Incus (LXD) + Docker + KVM, which is work, but everything is predictable and not excessively complicated.

Harvester might be a good option, but will take me a while to research it and spin up a test node.

[Update] Reviews of Harvester (1 year old) suggest the performance is a bit of a hog, especially Longhorn storage. Not sure if this is currently true, so I guess I need to spin up a system and tinker.

I also stumbled across OpenNebula, which looks interesting.

I’ll start a linked thread to ask for feedback on those two. Alternative Hypervisor Stacks - Harvester & OpenNebula
